Swedish police are investigating after a gunman opened fire at an adult education center on Feb 5, 2025 in Örebro, killing 11 people. Police are reporting that the shooting may have been racially motivated after the investigation discovered several people of different nationalities, including Syrians, were among the dead.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2025 a lone gunman walked into Campus Risbergska, an adult education school, and opened fire killing 11people. Swedish police are still investigating and are not providing many details of the motivations for the killing, although it is being speculated that the shooting could have been racially motivated. The police have been unable to confirm the identities of the victims due to the ongoing identification process.
 The gunman, believed to be Rickard Andersson, 35, a former student, is among the dead. Andersson, took some classes at the school a few years ago and has been without a job for over a decade. Police have declined to confirm the shooters identity and are currently waiting on a DNA confirmation. They police have stated the gunman had no ties to criminal gangs and that the shooting was based on other grounds. The suspected gunman had a license for four weapons, three of which were found on the scene with the shooter.

Sweden has seen an increase in anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric since their 2022 election. The school where the shooting took place is known to have a very diverse student body. Sweden has an open school policy wherein any members of the public can easily walk into any school without being stopped or having to check in. Since the shooting, there have been public calls to make changes to this policy.
