A male jailbreak in a prison in Goma, a city in easter Democratic Republic of Congo, as led to over 150 female prisoners to be raped and burned to death.
On January 27, 2025 Rwandan-backed M23 rebels reached the city of Goma. There are no details about what happened after that. In the chaos, the prison holding and estimated 4000 male inmates and 165 female inmates was filtrated. Most of the 4000 male inmates excaped while the majority of the 165 female inmates were all raped and then set on fire. There are no further details and United Nations officials have been unable to investigate further due to M23 rebels being in control of the city. Rwanda has denied their backing of M23 rebels and it is unclear how long M23 can hold the city of Goma.
